C.W. Miller, an Artist for All Surfaces

Someone said of Cleta, “If you’ve got a can, she can.” Her home is like a small art gallery of creations painted on almost every imaginable surface, including metal, paper, canvas, ceramics, wood and cloth. Great knowledge and skill are needed to paint on such a variety of surfaces.

Yet more than a surface artist, her abilities run deep. As she prepares an item with her special mixtures, she goes within herself to determine the needs of her client, bringing out the best in the art so that hundreds, perhaps thousands of people will enjoy it for years to come.
Her past accomplishments include:
☼ Cleta started strong, was first place winner in a national Milton Bradley Crayon contest when she was 12 years old. She has been painting ever since, refining her skills and selling many products at an antique mall on historical Route 66 in Amarillo and a craft shop in New Mexico. She loves nature and Southwest art and designs.

☼ She was one of a select group of Texas Panhandle artists chosen to paint the lifelike horses sponsored by Amarillo’s Center City and the American Quarter Horse Association. Several businesses now proudly display horses with her marvelous artwork. Only a few weeks after Cleta’s first horse arrived at Cavender’s, she was invited to paint a horse for Street Toyota, as shown in the photo. She has painted six horses to date.
☼ She is the chief artistic consultant for Path Publishing, helping us release four children’s books. She is a patient teacher and wise counselor. She can design company logos and distinctive graphics for books, brochures, or promotional releases.
☼ Cleta has painted numerous items that were special requests, taking an item and an idea and creating fine art. Once a man gave her an oil can to paint. Getting out all the oil and preparing the surface metal were the hard parts — compared to those, the painting was a cinch.
☼ She has painted several wall murals. Although she can paint anything on walls, she especially loves animal and circus themes for children’s rooms. She also paints her designs on furniture.
